Staying in St Ives holiday cottages will be an all-round enjoyable experience for all age groups. History and Nature For those who like to learn about the history of the places they visit, the Wayside Folk Museum in Zennor is a worth a look. Its the oldest private museum in Cornwall and covers life in this area from 3000 BC until the 1930s. Exhibits include those on mining, farming, fishing and archaeology, and the museum brings the 18th century back to life with its mill house and blacksmiths. A little further away, but still less than an hour away from many of the St Ives holiday cottages, is the National Maritime Museum on Discovery Quay in Falmouth. This is a must-see for anyone with an interest in Maritime history. The museum has won many tourism awards and gives a great insight into the lives of the maritime .munity in Cornwall. The Search and Rescue Exhibition will be particularly interesting to children, as you can explore a lifeboat and climb into a Sea King helicopter. You can go from one extreme to the other by climbing the 100ft Look Out Tower to gaze down at Falmouth, then go to the depths of the underwater gallery from where you can watch seals, mullet and all manner of sea life swim past. Nature has provided many places of interest in Cornwall and on the opposite coast to St Ives, at Marazion, is St. Michaels Mount. The tidal island is now protected by the National Trust and is where the legend of Jack the Giant Slayer originated. The oldest buildings on the islands are from the 12th century and the island is topped by a medieval church and castle – the stuff of dreams for adventurous children. The castle looks down on subtropical terraced gardens and the views of Mount Bay are truly spectacular. Access to the island is by boat when the tide is in and you are able to walk across the causeway when it is out.
